The Memorial Union at the University of North Dakota has served as the heart of the campus since its first event in 1951. In 2018, UND gave students an opportunity to voice their opinions on a new student union center and students voted to upgrade student services, technologies and the facility to better serve the needs of the changing student body. This included building the facility with sustainability in mind through the use of energy-efficient lighting, windows, recycled materials and reduction of the building’s overall carbon footprint.
As part of the upgrades to better serve the students on campus, the new Memorial Union hall at UND includes study and meeting spaces that incorporate flexible seating and spaces, and new IT lounge equipped with reliable WiFi, HD screens, white boards and modern collaboration technology.
This new facility also includes an updated dining, retail and entertainment space with stage, screens, gaming lounge, indoor/outdoor spaces and cafe. Additionally, the ballroom was expanded by 30% for a total capacity of 1,000 students with quick conversion capability to a 650-seat banquet hall.
